Now that Apple has officially unveiled what features the new iPhone 6 will have, it’s time to discuss some of the reasons why they thought the new smartphone was necessary. The expectations are high for this latest iteration on the world’s first smartphone, as sales are estimated to be around 10,000 units in the first weekend of sales.

Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage Tuesday afternoon at the Flint Center in Cupertino, Calif., to announce the new devices and new features.

8 Questions About the New iPhone 6 and Apple Watch

The new features are meant to help people stay connected, help them with mobile payments and also help them utilize their tools better.

One New iPhone 6 is Good, But Two are Better!

The first thing to know is that it’s not just one phone model, but two!

That’s right, they’ll release the new iPhone 6, which measure out to be a 4.7-inch screen, and they’ll also release a bigger phone, called the iPhone 6 Plus, which has a screen that measures 5.5-inches from corner to corner.

Cook told the live audience and the live streaming audience, that the new iPhone 6 is “the biggest advancement in iPhone.”

Is Bigger Better?

The larger screens are expected to compete with the Samsung Galaxy and the Samsung Galaxy Note, which consumers have shown are quite popular as large-faced phones. The Samsung phones are still a little bit bigger than their iPhone counterparts.

This pair of iPhones will come in gold, silver and space gray.

Does Bigger Mean Fatter and Slower?

Both new iPhone 6 devices are thinner than the iPhone 5S, and they’ll both have an A8 processor that’s 50 times faster than the original iPhone, and with 25-percent more processing power than the iPhone 5S.

When is the New iPhone 6 Available?

Apple will open its doors on the morning of Friday, Sept. 19, to no doubt long lines of Apple fans ready to try out the new iPhone 6.

Are We Ready for the Apple Watch: A Smartphone on Our Wrist?

“The Apple Watch,” Cook says, “is the most personal device we’ve ever created.” It’s voice-enabled and it has many fitness and health features and sensors. These sensors include things like an accelerometer, gyroscopes, and ways to check your pulse. You can also track where you are and where you are running with GPS and Wi-Fi.

The Apple Watch will costs $349, and it is expected to launch early in 2015, to compete with other smart watches and smart wearables.

The Apple Watch has touch functionality, along with the ability to view weather and maps, as well as a connection to both Siri and Messages, where text messages and emojis are available.

Some other cool features and functionality of the Apple Watch includes its ability to do things like open a hotel room door, in hotels with apps that feature it, like Starwood Hotels.

Users will need to have an iPhone to use the Apple Watch, specifically, the iPhone 5, 5c and 5S, or the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The watch bands come in white, blue and pink.

What Exactly is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is a new feature iPhones will have that they explain as a mobile payment business. The way it will work is that a user places their new iPhone 6 in front of a sensor, presumably at most retail outlets, convenience stores, grocery markets and gas station, and a beep indicates payment has been applied.

Your credit cards will be stored on Passbook. Those credit card numbers won’t be stored on the phone, though, so that a stolen phone can have payment suspended remotely, without having to cancel credit cards. Visa, Mastercard and American Express, along with Chase and Bank of America, are all on board.

Apple Pay will also use apps like Target, McDonald’s, Subway, and many others for this feature. This feature should be ready in October for use on new iPhones only, and the Apple Watch.

Is the Camera Any Better?

Definitely. Each phone will have a retina HD display, and the new iSight camera is eight megapixels, with new focus and sensory piixels, which can see light coming in and out for faster auto-focus like on high-speed DLR cameras.

How Much Does the iPhone 6 Cost?

The 16GB model of the new iPhone 6 costs $199, but goes up to $299 for the 64GB version, and $399 for a new, larger 128GB model.

The iPhone 6 Plus, however, costs $299 for the 16 GB version, $399 for a 64GB phone, and $499 for the 128GB model.

One thing is for certain with the new Apple Watch and the two new iPhone 6 smartphones — they’re a pretty big step forward in the mobile devices market. And now it’s up to Android and other companies to make their moves to catch up again.
