FieceWireless reports that Nokia plans to buy Alcatel-Lucent by next year. Alcatel-Lucent is a France-based telecommunications company that is valued at about $16.6 billion.

The combined company is expected to be called Nokia Corporation, and it will be based in Finland, with a presence in France, as well.

The move also puts both companies in a stronger position to compete with industry-leading companies like Ericsson, Huawei and ZTE.
