Making volunteer work go fartherPosted: February 27, 2009
As the head of a non-profit organization, it is vital to make the best use of the volunteer time our board of directors contributes to our foundation. Imperative to our operations are the internet and the devices which provide transmission of information, whether it be emails or data on the web. Our main communication is done via email, and many of the directors have phones capable of receiving email, making it far more effective to handle matters in a timely manner. Recently, when someone's internet service was down, it was quite evident how much we rely on such service. Our board members live in different cities, so getting together in person is not easy, especially with a variety of schedules to accommodate. Electronic communication allows us to communicate with each other simultaneously, while also allowing us to do so on our own timetable, such as when we grab a few minutes between all of our regular life activities.
