With the New iMac 5K Retina Display Out There, is an Apple Television Far Off?

We’ve been hearing about 4K TVs for a while now, as well as Ultra-HD televisions. But the new iMac, a 27-inch monitor with Retina 5K, could signal that Apple is ready to blow right past the best high-definition televisions.

The new monitor has four times the pixels as the standard iMac 27-inch monitor.

One year ago, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook spoke in an interview at the D: All Things Digital Conference, and he said that television is “an area of great interest to us.”

“You know, TV is one of those things that, if we’re really honest, is stuck in the 1970s,” Cook said. “Think about how much your life has changed and how all the things around you have changed, and yet when you go in your living room to watch the TV, or wherever it might be, it almost feels like you’re rewinding the clock and you’ve entered a time capsule and you’re going backwards. The interface is terrible. It’s awful! And you watch things when they come on, unless you remember to record them.”
